Huntingdonshire District Council will be running a ‘Be a Councillor’ event on Wednesday 15 November 2017 at 7pm in the Civic Suite, Pathfinder House, Huntingdon.

The role of a councillor offers the opportunity to make a huge difference to the quality of life for people in the local area. The event is designed to encourage residents and those who work in the district to find out what being a local councillor entails.

Council elections are being held in May 2018 for all of its 52 seats and will be based on new district ward boundaries. The council is moving away from elections by thirds to whole council elections from next year, allowing interested people to get involved in the democratic process.

There will be presentations by the council’s managing director, executive leader and other senior officers. They will address attendees on matters including how the council works, how decisions are taken and the importance of the Code of Conduct. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to get further advice on the election process and other support available to councillors.

After the event, representatives of political parties will be in attendance to offer an informal session via a ‘market stall’ approach, where further information will be available to encourage attendees to get involved. Information will also be provided for anyone interested in standing as an independent candidate.

Further information on the event and what's involved in being a councillor can be found on the Be A Councillor website.
