A sustainability appraisal is a systematic process that must be carried out during the preparation of a Local Plan. Its role is to promote sustainable development by assessing the extent to which the emerging plan, when judged against reasonable alternatives, will help to achieve relevant environmental, economic and social objectives.
The sustainability appraisal for the Local Plan to 2036 is currently made up of:
the Sustainability Scoping Report, produced in 2012
the Stage 3 – Sustainability Appraisal, which was published for public consultation in May 2013.
Sustainability appraisal of potential development sites is contained in the Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA).
We are currently working on completing the sustainability appraisal process to be published for consultation with the Proposed Submission stage of the Local Plan to 2036.
