Health Inequalities Project

We are working with local community groups on a brand-new Health Inequalities Project, thanks to funding from the Integrated Care System. Contributing to health improvement, we are working closely with local recognised community groups to develop solutions to the challenges their residents face.

What is a Recognised Organisation?

Recognised Organisations (ROs) were identified throughout the COVID-19 crisis as volunteer-involved organisations to support their local communities. HDC and Hunts Forum worked together to set up the Network of ROs that met the accreditation criteria. We are delighted to continue working with these community groups on this project.

Brampton Village Hub offers a wide range of services, links up with other organisations and receives referrals from Brampton Surgery, the Alzheimer's Society, Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The Hub Board includes representatives from 14 organisations, with more than 120 volunteers offering more than 25 services, with new projects always on the go.

CARESCO is a unique charity based in the village of Sawtry, which exists to serve the local community in Sawtry and its satellite villages. They run a range of services for the benefit of local people thanks to a wonderful team of volunteers from the surrounding area. Most activities run from their purpose-built Centre in the middle of the village, unless otherwise specified. As a charity, CARESCO is managed by a team of trustees who have oversight of the organisation, which they delegate on a day-to-day basis to the team of paid staff members.

    A series of workshops and training around the topic of health. The first workshop is planned for Friday 17 February and features a talk on Healthy Eating from the One Leisure Active Lifestyles Team.     A wide variety of sports, for example - cricket, volleyball, tennis, handball, tri-golf, boccia, athletics and dodgeball.

    Modified versions of the football or netball suitable for adults aged 35+, regardless of ability or fitness.

HemingfordHub is a community initiative and a growing part of the fabric of both villages. It offers help, friendship and advice to all residents, no matter what age or background, especially the elderly, parents who may be struggling, those with disabilities and anyone wanting a little company. It is run by local people for local people.

Hilton Parish Council is there to serve its community. It has many functions but overall its prime objective is to manage, improve and preserve Hilton village for the good of all. Hilton is a unique community and a very desirable place to live. The Parish Council is well placed to represent the local community and work with Huntingdonshire District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and National Government plus other authorities such as the Police, Highways England and transport groups to achieve the best for the community.

The Huntingdonshire Community Group (HCG) was formed in 2002 as a platform to bring together the diverse people of different nationalities living and working in Huntingdonshire.

The group aims to act as a positive force for the greater good in the promotion of the cultural diversity, increase racial tolerance and to enhance community cohesion. It aims to strengthen community spirit in the local community. HCG strives to find different ways to unite communities, by organising events and joining in the various forms of both local and national celebrations.

Kimbolton may be one of the smallest villages in Huntingdonshire, but it's filled to the brim with charm and history. Kimbolton had an important market during the medieval period, and during the Saxon era it is said that King Harold Godwinson owned a hunting lodge nearby and worshipped at the local church.

Love's Farm is a community of people living on a housing development east of the railway line in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. The Love’s Farm Community Association (LFCA) welcomes residents to take part whether they recently moved in or have been on Love’s Farm since the first bricks were laid.

LFCA is proud of its community and committed to doing what it can to make it happy, healthy and safe. Sometimes that means working to get things fixed or addressing a problem. Often, it’s about creating opportunities for residents to meet, socialise and form friendships. Occasionally the Association represents the views of the community at public consultations and council meetings.

LFCA organises events and activities like picnics, litter picking and work parties to maintain green spaces. It also supports local residents and community groups. The Association works within a network of community organisations including Love’s Farm House, Neighbourhood Watch, Community Money Advice and Love’s Farm Church.

Social Echo North Huntingdonshire CIC is a not-for-profit organisation based in Yaxley. Its mission is to dismantle poverty and lack of opportunity by bringing together the public, private and voluntary sector. Timebanking is an exciting way for local people to come together and help each other by exchanging knowledge, help and skills. In a Timebank everyone's time is equal. Regardless of the skills or expertise being exchanged, one hour equals one hour.

The Timebank is fully inclusive, encouraging everyone to get involved! There are over 150 individuals and 15 organisational members using the Time Bank to connect. Alongside Timebank exchanges, the coordinator also works on community development, collaborates with other organisations, and works closely with the voluntary and public sector.

St Ives Cares, funded by Cambridgeshire County Council's Innovate and Cultivate Fund, is a neighbourhood-based support scheme. It plans to use local volunteers to support, work with and grow a community which helps older people in St Ives.

St Ives Cares is engaging with residents to find out what they feel could make St Ives an age friendly place to live and finding out about some of the great local resources, and what could be developed locally.
