Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) has been awarded £80,000 for accessible public toilet provision from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), allocated as part of the Changing Places public toilets project.

The District Council’s submission was one of 191 councils across England to be awarded funding during the first application round. The £80,000 funding award will allow HDC to construct a new Changing Places accessible facility as part of the investment in Hinchingbrooke Country Park, supporting work to ensure the site has open access for all and allow the District Council to invest in a mobile facility that, once sourced, will be able to be used to support the many community events that are held in our parks and open spaces across the district.

Executive Leader of the council, Cllr Ryan Fuller, said: "I welcome the announcement that our bid for funding has been approved as I know that the availability of Changing Places accessible toilets is an important issue to many people across the district. Our plan is to use this funding to increase the availability of accessible facilities at events across Huntingdonshire, making a real difference to the lives of disabled people and their families."

Applications for the grant had to be focused on existing buildings in country parks, tourist attractions or transport networks where the provision would not reduce any existing toilet provision. The funding allocations for the first round of Changing Places fund applications totals £23.5 million across 191 unitary and district councils.
