Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking Local Authority, with an ambitious Place Strategy (Huntingdonshire Futures) and a bold Corporate Plan as one of many tools to deliver it. We are clear that economic development growth is integral to the future of the district.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details

We're on the search for an experienced and driven Economic Development Manager to build on our success to date! There has never been a better time to join HDC!

About the role

As our Economic Development Manager, you will support existing businesses and inward investment as part of a diverse approach to supporting the economy; working collaboratively internally and externally to support the council's ambitions for economic growth and an inclusive economy for the future.

You will bring leadership, dynamism, innovation and creativity to the Economic Development Team, identifying, building and capturing opportunities for our indigenous and new businesses to thrive; whilst also seeking to explore, facilitate, enable and influence new investment into the area.

You will also work closely with colleagues within the Place Directorate (including Planning, Strategic Housing, and Insight and Delivery) as well as the wider council and partner organisations in order to proactively contribute to our wider economic, social and environmental objectives.

You will be joining at a time where there is collective ambition to support economic growth, and resources to do so. You will be empowered to shape the team needed to deliver against those ambitions.

About you

A skilled communicator, you will use various approaches to support the economy and the work of the team - from intelligence-led, targeted interventions and support; to horizon scanning with a constant eye to spot new funding streams and future challenges/opportunities.

Adaptability and flexibility will be key. You will have experience in leading and inspiring a highly performing team; and building a credible reputation with varied partners to achieve outcomes.

You will be able to leverage knowledge and aspiration with partners and build opportunities for investment and success.

Energy, enthusiasm, collaboration and imagination will be required for this progressive and proactive role. Along with the ability to lead new areas of work that impact on how we unlock investment and prioritise and raise the profile and attractiveness of our place and people to business.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, we'd love to hear from you!

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and are unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over Sponsorship for any role.
