Please note that the current scheme will be suspended on 22 February 2018 and a new scheme will open on 1 April 2018. Any referrals received after 22 February will be transferred to the new scheme.
What is the Exercise Referral Scheme?
The scheme aims to help improve the health of the community, promote active healthy lifestyles and decrease sedentary-related illnesses.
How does it work?
Registered health professionals can refer individuals who will benefit from a personalised 12 week exercise programme at our One Leisure centres. The exercise programmes are designed to meet the needs of the individual and may include gym-based exercises, walking, swimming, exercise classes, cycling and other activities.
There are currently over 350 health professionals (GPs, physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists etc) registered to refer people to the scheme.
Who is it for?
Any resident of Huntingdonshire, over 16 years old, who is referred by a health professional because they will benefit from exercise to help in rehabilitation and prevention of certain medical conditions. For example:
heart conditions (including heart failure)
diabetes (type 1 and 2)
obesity (BMI > 30)
22 February 2018 - the existing scheme closes to new referrals
23 February 2018 - any referral received on or after this date will be part of the new scheme
- 1 April 2018 - new scheme starts.
How much does it cost?
The scheme costs £30 for the 12 week referral period. The £30 fee includes an initial individual induction, gym sessions and swimming at off-peak times only (Monday to Friday, 6.30am - 4.30pm and all day Saturday and Sunday). Peak use is available but the costs will vary. Please contact us if you require appointments during peak times and we can discuss the best option for you.
Once the 12 week scheme has finished there are two options to continue using the gym facilities:
1. Pay £4.20 per visit (off-peak).
2. Take out a pre-paid membership option with One Leisure with no membership/joining fee. For further information please speak to your instructor.
There is no cost to health professionals for referrals.
How do health professionals get registered?
