Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is proud to announce that St Neots Riverside Park has won its first Green Flag Award.

In addition to this win, HDC is also celebrating continued awards with Priory Park receiving its eighth consecutive award, and both Hinchingbrooke Country Park and Paxton Pits Nature Reserve securing their seventh consecutive awards.

The news that these sites have achieved the accreditation - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces - is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green space so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy it.

Executive Councillor for Open Spaces, Waste and Street Scene, Cllr Simone Taylor, said: "The Green Flag Award proudly flies above more than 2000 places in over 15 countries and what an amazing result as Huntingdonshire have four of them!

"This award recognises the many hours of hard work the teams at HDC and the much-needed volunteers put in, to give the residents and visitors who use the parks, countryside parks and nature reserves space to breath and to do activities that are good for their wellbeing.

"The Green Flags will raise the profile of our parks and hopefully get more using them. The flag shows how the team have raised the standards over the years to be awarded a Green Flag many times and, of course, a brand-new Green flag for St Neots Riverside Park. Thank you to all the team involved."

Keep Britain Tidy's Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Huntingdonshire District Council on achieving a Green Flag Award.

"These parks are a vital green space for communities in Huntingdonshire to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.

We know that staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected."

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
