Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is pleased to announce that work has commenced in St Neots as part of the Town Centre Improvement project.
The project will see the Market Square opened into an attractive and versatile public realm space. By relocating parking and introducing seating areas, facilities for the market and events in the town will be enhanced.
The improvements are part of the ambitious Market Towns Programme to support Huntingdonshire's town centres. The investment in St Neots High Street totals around £15 million and has been jointly funded by the Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority, Huntingdonshire District Council, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, National Highways and Cambridgeshire County Council.
The primary focus of the project will be in Market Square and the High Street, starting the week commencing 8 January 2024, and continuing until January 2025. To minimise disruption, traffic management measures will be implemented during the construction period, and road closures will be limited to overnight and only for essential carriageway resurfacing.
Starting 4 January 2024, a weekly bulletin will be posted on our website. This bulletin will outline the upcoming week's work, detailing any traffic management measures in place. It aims to assist residents and visitors of St Neots in planning their journeys around the town.
Cllr Sam Wakeford, Executive Councillor for Jobs, Economy and Housing at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "We are excited that the construction phase of the town centre improvements project is now commencing, which is a significant milestone for St Neots, promising a more attractive, versatile and vibrant public space in the historic centre of the town."
