Huntingdonshire District Council is excited to announce the expansion of the Shop Front Grant Scheme to encompass the entire district from 1 July 2024.

This initiative, previously available only to market towns, will now support businesses across all areas of Huntingdonshire, encouraging economic growth and enhancing the visual appeal of our local commercial areas.

The Shop Front Grant Scheme is designed to assist local businesses in revitalizing their storefronts, making them more attractive to customers and improving the overall aesthetic of our shopping streets. By providing financial support, the council aims to stimulate economic activity, foster community pride, and enhance the vibrancy of our district’s commercial zones.

Examples of improvements include, but are not limited to:

  • repairs
  • repainting
  • signage
  • external lighting
  • repair of external stonework and brickwork
  • repair and reinstatement of guttering and down-pipes
  • window display equipment and lighting
  • professional fees.

All proposals will be subject to the planning approval process, and applicants are encouraged to use the council's pre-application advice service.

The decision to extend the scheme district-wide comes in response to positive feedback from businesses and residents in market towns that have already benefited from the grants. By widening the scope, the council aims to ensure that businesses in smaller villages and outlying areas also can improve their facades, attract more customers, and contribute to the overall prosperity of Huntingdonshire.

The grant scheme is set to close on 1 September 2024 and all independent businesses are encouraged to apply. For more information, eligibility and how to apply, go to Shop Front Improvements Grant.
