Huntingdonshire District Council has secured funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) to deliver redevelopment works in Ramsey that will build on the heritage, character and independent shopping experience that underpins this small but busy town centre.
Great Whyte pedestrianisation
The team is working with the Town Council to support their plans for a pedestrianised section of the Great Whyte. The project is in the early design stages but seeks to offer a "town centre" hub for visitors, which will be near local shops and services, house the growing market and provide a designated space for the variety of events hosted in the town.
Shopping pods
Following the success of past indoor marketplace-style shopping units the Town Council is looking to create an outdoor, small-scale retail unit offering to support local start-ups and small businesses whilst also enhancing the shopping experience in the town. The project is in the early planning stages, with feasibility and options work underway.
Shop Front Grant Scheme
Launching in 2024, the Shop Front Grant scheme has been expanded to town centre businesses in Ramsey and St Neots. Grants of up to £10,000 to renovate or refurbish the outside business premises are available to revitalise the town centre and encourage footfall.

Rivermill development
The Town Council is keen to build on increased river traffic and has plans to enhance the waterfront options for visitors. As a result, we are working with the team to consider public realm enhancements which could improve the area and make it a more attractive destination for visitors.
