The long-term investment strand of the Market Towns Programme was initiated as a result of the Prospectus for Growth reports created in March 2020 (See related links below).

The three market towns of Huntingdon, Ramsey and St Ives were allocated funding to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic through the Accelerated Towns Programme and to begin long-term masterplanning activity in the towns.

Development of three vision documents for Huntingdon, Ramsey and St Ives, focussing on the development of a pipeline of projects to enable the council and stakeholders to pursue funding opportunities, including a range of government opportunities, as they emerge over the coming years, including (but not limited to) the levelling up agenda.

The three documents were created utilising funding received from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA).

Development of draft vision documents

In June 2021 Tetra Tech, Steer Economic Consulting and Thomas Lister were engaged to deliver the three draft vision documents. The intention is for these vision documents to provide the basis for aligning regeneration aspirations with funding opportunities over the next number of years. The initial draft documents were developed with early engagement from the relevant town councils, ward members, local stakeholders and residents.

The vision documents comprise:

  • evidence baseline (social, economic, connectivity, built environment) for each of the three towns

  • opportunities for regeneration, place shaping, connecting communities and suggestions on a broad range of town centre enhancements

  • pipeline of projects for each of three towns that could be developed further and delivered over the medium and long terms.

Winter 2022

During the autumn of 2022, we held a period of engagement with town councils, ward members, local stakeholders and residents to capture feedback which help develop the vision documents for each market town.

We would like to thank everyone who provided feedback on the documents. Your feedback is extremely important to us and will inform how we progress the ideas presented in the vision documents.

We will keep you update on the progress and development of the plans via our bimonthly newsletter, social media, local press and also via our website. Sign up to the Market Towns newsletter mailing list.
