What is data matching?
We are required by law to protect the funds we administer. We may share information provided to us with other bodies who also look after public funds, in order to prevent and detect fraud.
Data Matching involves comparing computer records (that usually contain personal information) held by one body against other computer records held by the same or another body.
Computerised data matching allows potentially fraudulent claims and payments to be identified. Where a data match is found it means there may be an inconsistency in the computer records, and this will be investigated further. The investigation will look to see if the inconsistency in the data is due to fraud, error or some other reason.
